It's a shame those things are said Carlana. I do know for a fact that World Vision only uses a very small percentage of what it receives for its running costs and the rest goes to the programs for the children as intended. Something like only 18c in the dollar is used.

Tim Costello who heads World Vision has spoken at my church and is a friend of our Pastor's. They spoke about this very thing earlier in the year so that our congregation would know that the monies we raise definitely go to the children - and it does.

My husband and I receive regular letters and cards from the children we sponsor, telling us about their schooling and their family lives. We know we are making a difference.

Hi Kathie.
I'm happy to see you posting on a topic like this.
We have been thinking of doing this for sometime but have been quite skeptical because we really don't know which organization we would like to entrust our monies to. We really want the child we sponsor to benefit fully. I've heard so many bad things about some of these organizations, causing me to be apprehensive about sponsoring a child. we will definitely look into World Vision. Thanks again for posting this Kathy.

How good of you to lend your support to this worthwhile cause. We sponsor a child of our own, a little boy named Ubaldo, because we have no sons of our own and this makes a feel like in some way we do. It has been a very fulfilling experience and one I would highly encourage everyone to become involved in. As you point out, it's not expensive. Just one less trip to Starbucks each day, something we take for granted, can make all the difference in the life of a child. I am reminded of a quote (and I may not be getting it exact and I certainly don't remember who said it): It doesn't matter how much money you had or how big your car was but that you made a difference in the life of a child.

Someone told me this many years age when I was a busy mom raising six children. This holds true even more so now, with their ages ranging from 48 years to 25years. It has nothing to do with teaching them how to be happy. It is all about being a mother and wanting to fix your children when they are hurt. I am finding that there are many things that you can not fix. The older they get, the more true this becomes, and the truth hurts a lot.

Hi Kathie, my heart aches for you and your family. It is so hard to let a beloved pet go, even when they are old and frail. Our cat Chloe passed away 3 years ago, she was 15 and had been with us since we were newlyweds - in a sense, she was our "firstborn"! We still miss her, although these days Tigger has brought new joy to our lives. However nobody will ever replace our sweet girl kitty. Hugs to you and all and I know that your memories of Beau will bring you many a smile (and a tear!).

I only have room to learn 1,000 new things a day in my head!! LOL
Memes has been on the back burner, so I was glad to see a post here about it. You always do explain things so clearly.

Have a great day!

Kathie,

I have never owned a pet so I can't identify with what you're going through in that respect. However, I know many people whose pets are a part of their families and grieve over their loss. One of my former co-workers had an elaborate funeral and invited us all to come (at her home) and then she took two days off from work because she was so grief-stricken.

16 years is a LONG time to have a pet and its quite obvious how much you all loved him.
